  • What’s IfRead?
    IfRead is a free email tracking service that tracks email you sent. IfRead sends you a notification every time your email is opened, and you can also get a reminder if the recipient doesn't read your email in a set number of days.
  • How IfRead works?
    IfRead creates a tracking image for you, you embedded the tracking image into your HTML email. The image is assigned with unique ID and stored in IfRead server. Once your recipient opens your email, the tracking image will be loaded from IfRead server. Therefore, IfRead is alerted to send you notification.
  • What's the requirement for using IfRead?
    Both you and the recipient must use an HTML-formatted email, not a plain-text or rich-text formatted email. IfRead works with virtually all modern email programs: Eudora, Yahoo! Email, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL Email and many others. But if you use Outlook to send email, you need to change some Outlook default settings.
  • How to use IfRead to track my email?
    IfRead is easy to use. Simply create a tracking image on the homepage, then copy & paste the image into your email message, and send your email as usual, your email will be on tracking. For steps detail please visit the page of How to Use.

    1. Right click the tracking image, select "Copy image";

  • How to change Outlook settings to make IfRead work for tracking email?
    If you are using Outlook as your email software, you need to change the way it sends a downloadable image in your email, or IfRead will not work!

    Outlook Express:

    1. Click Tools > Options.
    2. Select the Send tab.
    3. Under Mail Sending Format, check HTML.
    4. Under Mail Sending Format, click the HTML Settings... button.
    5. Uncheck Send pictures with messages.
    6. Click OK > OK.


    Outlook 2003:

    1. Click Tools > Options.
    2. Select the Mail Format tab.
    3. Under Compose in this message format, select HTML from the pulldown menu.
    4. Click the Internet Format... button.
    5. Under HTML options, uncheck When an HTML message contains pictures located on the Internet, send a copy of the pictures instead of the reference to their location.
    6. Under Outlook Rich Text options, select Convert to HTML format from the pulldown menu.
    7. Click OK > OK.


    Outlook 2007:

    1. Click Start on Windows Vista/Windows 7 or click Start > Run on Windows XP.
    2. Enter "reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Mail /v "Send Pictures With Document" /t reg_dword /d 0 /f" in the Open: field.
    3. Click OK.


    Outlook 2010:

    1. Click Start on Windows Vista/Windows 7 or click Start > Run on Windows XP.
    2. Enter "reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail /v "Send Pictures With Document" /t reg_dword /d 0 /f" in the Open: field.
    3. Click OK.


    These will make sure your Outlook will send the reference (the Internet address or link) of the tracking image instead of a copy file of the image itself as an inline attachment in your email. The recipient's email software will then use the address to locate and download the tracking image from our server.
  • What kind of tracking images I can use?
    You can use the 1×1 pixel transparent image, emoticon images, SNS images and some common images offered by IfRead. You can also use custom signature (such as your logo) as your tracking images. Choose the 1×1 pixel transparent image if you wish to make your tracking image invisible to the recipient.
  • I used IfRead to send a tracked email to myself, but why can't I get a notification when I opened it?
    IfRead don't send you a notification when you open your tracked email yourself, so as not to inconvenience nor disturb you. If you want to test IfRead, feel free to send a test email to our address at test@ifread.com.

  • How many notifications can I get for my tracked email?
    Unregistered users can get up to 3 notifications for every tracked email. Registered users can set the count of notifications he want to get on the dashboard.
  • How long will my email being tracked?
    Your email is being tracked until the tracking is deleted, or is paused, or up to the maximum number of the notifications you get. All your trackings will be stopped after 30 days if you haven't a special setting on the dashboard.
  • How can I stop the tracking on my email?
    You can pause the tracking on the page of tracking report. Registered users can pause or delete the tracking on the dashboard.
  • Can I know which recipient read my message if I send out a group email with multiple recipients?
    IfRead is not able to do that for you. You will be notified every time a recipient opens your email (up to the maximum number of the notifications you get). To track each recipient, send a seperate email message with a different tracking image.
  • I received replies from my recipient, but I still didn't get a notification from IfRead, why?
    Some email clients are blocking images by default. If your recipient blocks the tracking image from loaded, the tracking will not working. Please make sure your recipient have added you to their safe list to bypass this problem.

  • My email address is in the recipient's safe contact list, but I still cannot get a notification, why?
    If you didn't get your notification email, check your spam folder as it might have gone there. Make sure you add ifread.com to your whitelist or safe senders list on your email application to avoid having your notifications blocked.

    If you still didn't find the email notification, feel free to send a test email to our address at test@ifread.com. Please let us know what Internet browser, email software and platform (Windows XP, Mac, etc.) that you're using. We'll take a look at your email and give you a feedback.

  • Is the recipient's geographic location shown on the tracking report always accurate?
    The accuracy is approximately 98% on the country level and 70% on the city level for US cities. The accuracy for non-US cities varies. This database is updated constantly to improve or maintain accuracy. The geo-location information is solely based on the recipient's computer IP address. Some Internet users might unintentionally or intentionally mask their true IP address and give out a different one, making them appear as if they're located in a different city or even country.
